Over 80s home visits to start

22 January 2021

Islanders aged over 80 who opted to receive their COVID-19 vaccine at their homes instead of Fort Regent will start to receive them this weekend.

Vaccination teams will start visiting homes of over 80s from Saturday to vaccinate the most vulnerable in the community. Teams will be operating seven days a week and consist of a vaccinator and health care assistant.

Islanders aged 75 and over who live with someone over 80 will also be able to receive their vaccine.

800 households in this group are expected to receive their vaccines over the next two weeks. As of Sunday 17 January, 44% of all over 80s have been vaccinated.

Islanders 75+, 70+, and high risk, will be able to book home visits once those tiers are in scope.

Operations Lead, Ross Barnes said: "We are pleased we have been able to reach this part of the programme so quickly. We have made encouraging progress in vaccinating the community and our teams are continuing to work extremely hard to protect Islanders.

"While home visits are an option, we encourage Islanders to only opt for this service if they are unable to attend the vaccine centre at Fort Regent"

Minister for Health and Social Services, Deputy Richard Renouf said: "Our health staff are working very hard and it is very encouraging to see the progress we have made in our fight against COVID-19.

"I continue to encourage all Islanders who are eligible for a vaccine at this current time, to book their vaccine appointments."
