Joint Statement by the Minister for Environment and the Minister for External Relations regarding the issuing of temporary licences for French fishing vessels

01 November 2021

The Government of Jersey has issued 49 temporary licences to French fishing vessels, as announced on the 28 October. These vessels will be able to fish in Jersey waters until 31 January 2022, to grant time to provide further data which is necessary to secure a permanent licence under the Trade and Cooperation Agreement.

These 49 temporary licences are in addition to the 113 permanent licences that have already been issued – 47 in May and 66 last week. In total, Jersey has issued 162 permanent and temporary licences to French vessels to date.

Jersey remains open to receiving further data for vessels that currently have no licence, and new applications can be submitted at any time.

We will continue to work closely with French authorities, the UK and the EU Commission – in accordance with the TCA – to ensure that vessels which are entitled to a licence are able to receive one and continue fishing in Jersey's territorial waters in accordance with their hisoric track record.
