Acting Minister for Education’s school visit

28 January 2021

The Acting Minister for Education, Deputy Jeremy Maҫon visited Rouge Bouillon Primary School yesterday to see first-hand the safety steps that they have implemented since pupils return to school.

Students in Jersey returned to school on Monday, 11 January and have since been adhering to COVID-19 guidelines in their classrooms.

The latest figures show that there is a 95% average attendance in primary schools in the Island and there were no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in schools or colleges yesterday.
The average attendance for secondary schools has also increased slightly to 84.8% compared to 83% the previous week.

Acting Minister for Education, Deputy Jeremy Maҫon said: “I would like to pay tribute to all of our school and college staff who have worked incredibly hard to keep schools safely open to our students. I’ve witnessed first-hand the safety steps that our schools have taken since they returned two weeks ago and I’m very impressed.

“I understand how incredibly busy this month has been for all of our schools and colleges and I’m pleased to see the high attendance rates and very low numbers of Covid-19 cases impacting on our nurseries, schools and settings.

“This is testament to all of the hard work from our school staff and the many teams across government and to all the students, parents and carers for playing their part too.”
