Recruitment opens for additional member of Rent Tribunal

07 September 2022

The Minister for Housing and Communities, Deputy David Warr, wishes to recruit one additional volunteer to join Jersey’s Rent Control Tribunal.

The Minister has already nominated four representatives to serve on the re-established Tribunal but would like to add a fifth member, and is particularly interested in hearing from Islanders who have a tenants’ rights or consumer affairs background.

The application process has opened on the government job pages and runs until 30 September 2022.

The traditional role of the Tribunal is to hear and determine referrals for reconsideration of rent payable, in accordance with Jersey law. Although its members will need to consider referrals that fall under the scope of the existing law, the short-term priority will be to develop proposals to update the Tribunal’s remit and function.

Deputy David Warr said: “We have already identified four capable and experienced people, who came forward to serve their community on the Rent Control Tribunal. However, I am looking for an additional person for consideration because I want the Tribunal to benefit from the greatest range of perspectives in its decision making.

“I want to echo the sentiments of my predecessor by encouraging Islanders to come forward for this excellent opportunity to make a real contribution to positive change in our community.”
