Islanders eligible for flu or COVID-19 vaccinations will be able to arrange vaccination via their GPs from 29 September.
The flu vaccine is available free of charge from GPs and Pharmacies to:
- Islanders aged 65 and over
- healthcare workers and registered carers
- clinically at-risk children aged 6 months to 2 years
- children aged 2 up to 16 years
- all those aged 16 to 50 years who are clinically at-risk (includes pregnant women)
- households of clinically at-risk Islanders or those on the shielded patient list
The annual flu programme for school children is already underway and catch-up clinics will be arranged for any children who were unable to receive their vaccine on the day that their school was visited. Children vaccinated against flu will receive the nasal vaccine.
The COVID-19 vaccine is available free of charge from GPs to:
- Islanders aged 75 and over
- Adults living in care homes for older adults
- Immunosuppressed aged 6 months and above
Director of Public Health, Professor Peter Bradley said: “Flu viruses tend to change from season to season which means a new vaccine each year is necessary to ensure the best protection.
“Both flu and COVID-19 can cause serious illness, particularly to the most vulnerable in our community. I urge those who are eligible to arrange vaccination as early in the season as possible this will provide the best defence during the colder months when we spend more time indoors where viruses circulate more easily.”
