There are currently no cases of Avian Influenza, bird flu, in Jersey. However, given the scale of
outbreaks in Europe and the UK, the risk of introduction via migratory birds remains. Therefore,
Infrastructure and Environment’s Animal Health and Welfare team want to remind Islanders to report dead wild birds and
stay safe.
To help detect the virus, if it should come to Jersey, Islanders should report any dead wild birds,
especially swans, ducks, geese, gulls and birds of prey. Please do not touch or handle dead
birds under any circumstances.
Biosecurity advice for poultry keepers:
- Keep wild birds away by using covered runs and preventing access to feed and water.
- Clean housing, feeders, and equipment regularly with approved disinfectants.
- Wash hands after handling birds.
- Store feed securely and provide clean water.
- Check birds daily for signs of illness.
- Isolate new or sick birds.
- If you keep 30 or more birds, register as a poultry keeper online Keeping and moving livestock to stay informed of disease updates.
These simple steps help reduce the risk of disease and flocks safe.
