The Government of Jersey has completed the delivery of two new pedestrian crossings on Mont
Millais, adjacent to Jersey College for Girls.
This aims to provide safer and easier access for pedestrians, particularly students, staff, and
residents in the area.
Improvements include a new signal-controlled crossing installed at the start of September and
a pedestrian refuge crossing connecting two bus stops on Mont Millais south of the JCG car
park. Key upgrades adjacent to the signal-controlled crossing include a larger and enhanced
waiting area with improved visibility, better lighting, and a widened footpath along Mont Millais.
The signal-controlled crossing which was completed first, has been proving successful — on
school days in September and October, the crossing was used by an average of 560
pedestrians over a 24-hour period.
These crossings form part of the wider Bagatelle Safer Routes to School project, a programme
aimed at encouraging safer walking, cycling and bus travel for the 7,500 pupils attending
schools in the local area. Other current initiatives include a six-month trial of a part-time
pedestrian crossing on Clarence Road, adjacent to Victoria College Preparatory School. For

Carl Howarth, Principal of Jersey College for Girls, said:
“The installation of the crossings has significantly improved the safety of all pedestrians,
students and local residents.”
The Minister for Infrastructure, Connétable Andy Jehan, said:
“The new crossings on Mont Millais have been a key project in creating safer routes to school.
They aim to improve active travel and have been developed in response to feedback from the
school and community around it. We continue to progress other projects under the Safer
Routes to School programme."
