From 1 October, changes to the criteria for funded IVF will be introduced, making it possible for
more couples to access funded fertility treatment.
The updated criteria will mean:
- Access for couples with children from previous relationships: Couples will be
eligible for funded IVF even if one partner has children from an earlier relationship,
provided they do not currently have a child together.
- Access for same-sex female couples: The requirement for same-sex female couples
to prove infertility through artificial insemination will be removed.
- Residency rules aligned to existing policies: Eligibility for IVF funding will be based on
access to funded healthcare under existing policies, ensuring long-term residents
returning home to Jersey are not disadvantaged.
Deputy Andy Howell, Assistant Minister for Health and Social Services, with responsibility for
Women’s Health said: "We know how deeply many couples long to have a child, and the
challenges they face when that journey is not straightforward. When the first round of changes
to IVF funding were announced last year, I committed to keeping these under review, in a hope
that we would be able to extend the offer and support more couples with IVF funding within the
available budget.
"I’m delighted that we are now in that position, and that more couples will be
able to access Government funded IVF treatment. As we did previously, we will monitor the
impact of these changes carefully. Our focus is on giving as many couples as possible the
chance to build the family they dream of."
