Broad Street public realm scheme starting in September

18 August 2025

From Monday 1 September, the first phase of the Broad Street Public Realm Improvements will begin. This work will cover the area from Lloyds Bank to the Post Office, turning the area into a pedestrian-priority zone with high-quality paving, bespoke furniture, and enhanced greenery including tree planting.

This is in line with the Government's Common Strategic Plan and the commitment to revitalise town and is continuing on from the work which has recently been completed on New Cut to improve the public realm.

The New Cut/King Street junction has had a compass paving feature installed, with high quality brass lettering referencing key local destinations, brass arrow points and a central representation of the Elias Le Gros map. The area has also seen vehicle access limited, to create a more welcoming space for visitors walking through Town and has resulted in an increase in alfresco applications in the area.

For further details about the planned Public Realm Improvements please see our new blog  – Broad Street Public Realm Improvements – Official Government of Jersey Blog.

Road closures will be in place from Lloyds Bank to the Post Office. Pedestrian access will be maintained, but cyclists must dismount when passing through work areas. Buses that used Broad Street have also been re-routed and temporary arrangements will be in place to support deliveries.

This work will continue until March 2026, avoiding peak summer and also the Christmas retail period.

Further works to Broad Street are then expected to take place in three further phases, aiming for the completion of Phase 4 in Q4 2027.

From today, signage will be appearing in the area to inform the public of the upcoming work, we will also be maintaining engagement with the business in the area throughout.
