Work has started on the memorial garden at Haut du Mont, which is in honour of the ten
Islanders who died following the explosion on 10 December 2022.
Their families were closely involved in the design of the public garden which includes paths,
seating, a children’s area and personal touches such as favourite flowers of those who died.
The memorial garden will be on the south side of Haut du Mont, now Vue du Port, at the site of
the explosion. The land was gifted to the Government of Jersey by Andium Homes.
Initial landscaping began this week with demolition and groundwork starting in a few weeks’
time.
Creating the garden will take about seven months with planting happening in the autumn.
The aim is for the garden to be open by the fourth anniversary of the explosion in December.
The memorial itself will be designed and added to the garden following consultation with the
families who lost loved ones and when they feel the time is right.
