Latest annual progress report concerning Violence Against Women and Girls published

17 April 2026

The Minister for Justice and Home Affairs has published the second progress report concerning Violence Against Women and Girls, VAWG, showing that good progress has been made against the recommendations set, with 68 recommendations shown as complete.

When the first progress report was published in June 2025, 27 recommendations were shown as complete or requiring no further action.

The latest Violence against Women and Girls: Annual Progress Report – and the final one for this Government – shows that of the recommendations to be addressed, made by the VAWG Taskforce in the Taskforce Report from November 2023:

  • 68 are complete or require no further action
  • 37 are in progress
  • 0 are awaiting reporting
  • 4 are not started

Since last June, key recommendations met include the publication of The Laws Review (February 2026) and the adoption of a new package of legislation (March 2026) to help protect islanders from crimes associated with violence against women and girls. In addition, a review of the Family Court system in relation to domestic abuse cases is underway, and a Toolkit for Schools regarding VAWG education and awareness has been developed.

The recommendations were issued to the Government of Jersey and the key partners it works with by the VAWG Taskforce as part of ongoing work to tackle violence against women and girls in Jersey.

They cover categories including conventions, legislative development, data, independent reviews, further reviews and governance, health, support provision, awareness campaigns, education, further research, and training.

Ongoing work to implement the remaining VAWG Taskforce recommendations, and coordinate action to address domestic abuse and sexual harms in Jersey more generally, will continue under a partnership formed under the Government of Jersey’s Building a Safer Community Framework, called the Domestic Abuse and Sexual Harms Partnership.

Minister for Justice and Home Affairs, Deputy Mary Le Hegarat said: “I commend the dedication and hard work of everyone involved in the VAWG Taskforce to address VAWG in Jersey, and I believe that this is reflected in the achievements detailed in the report.

“I am pleased to publish this progress report as my term of office as Minister for Justice and Home Affairs comes to an end.

“Ensuring that work to help end violence towards women and girls has been a priority for me and for the Council of Ministers. I want to acknowledge all the work put in by so many people, which has ensured awareness and momentum about this important subject has continued.

“I would urge the next Council of Ministers to continue to maintain a focus on addressing the Taskforce recommendations to ensure that we achieve the long-term changes that are needed. In particular, ensuring that our system is appropriately resourced to deliver outcomes for victim survivors will, in my opinion, need to be addressed as a priority.”
