Chief Minister in Paris to sign partnership agreement

04 November 2008

The Chief Minister, Senator Frank Walker and a delegation of States members will be in Paris on Wednesday 5 November to sign a partnership agreement between the Conseil Général de la Manche and the States of Jersey.

The agreement will be signed on behalf of the Conseil by the Président, Senator Jean-François Le Grand and will formalise, develop and strengthen the economic, cultural and political co-operation between the two regions.
Jersey has longstanding cultural and economic links with the region of Normandy, and in particular with La Manche. Regular working groups have recently been established, which include political representatives and officials from each administration and several French national politicians from the Groupe d’études pour les îles anglo-normandes will also be present at the signing ceremony.
It is the success of these working groups that has led to the creation of the partnership agreement which sets out the areas of common interest and the ways in which the States of Jersey and the Conseil Général de la Manche hope to continue to work together on common initiatives.

At the ceremony Senator Walker will use the international stage to present a speech to the French Senate on Jersey's financial standing and the Island's response to the world financial situation.
