Public planning meeting protocols (planning practice note)

​Protocols for public meetings

The following are the protocols for public meetings :
  • members of the public are entitled to attend public meetings

  • if you want to speak you should restrict your comments to a duration of five minutes and confine remarks to relevant planning issues. You should not raise personal or private matters

  • in the case of groups of people raising similar issues, choose a single representative to put forward the collective views of your group

  • you must make your points orally. We will not accept any additional submissions during the meeting, as these cannot be properly assessed and circulated in time

  • you may be asked questions and or clarification from planning officers on any points you make

  • anyone who behaves in a manner which interferes with the deliberations will be asked to leave by the chairman. Failure to comply with such a request is an offence and will render that person liable to a fine
