Consular support

British passport holders living in Jersey

The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) are responsible for providing consular assistance to all British nationals and their families, including those residing in Jersey.

If you’re a British passport holder living in Jersey and you or your family need support, we can ensure that you reach the relevant part of the UK Government for issues such as:

  • lost passports
  • emergencies
  • arrest
  • death

How to contact us

If you’re in Jersey, contact us by email at externalrelations@gov.je

If you’re outside Jersey, you can contact our offices:

We aim to respond to emails within 24 hours. If your email is sent over the weekend, we’ll respond on the first working day of the following week.

In-country assistance

You can find a full list of help and services from the UK government if you’re abroad on Help and services around the world

You can contact them directly on Consular assistance: how the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office provides support, or with our support.

The FCDO doesn’t charge for consular services but in some cases, such as issuing emergency travel documents, fees are incurred.

British nationals are expected to take responsibility for themselves and their safety while abroad.

Non-British nationals

Non-British nationals should contact the consular services offered by their country of citizenship.

If you’re a non-British national living in Jersey, we can help connect you with the relevant Embassy or High Commission in London for consular matters and other issues such as passport renewal.

Travel advice

The UK Government also publishes travel advice for 226 countries and territories.

The guides provide information on areas such as entry requirements and visas, safety and security, and health risks.

Foreign travel advice

In certain cases, the FCDO will advise against ‘all but essential travel’ or ‘all travel’ to a country or a certain part of a country. If you’re planning to visit somewhere for which this advice is in force, you should check your travel insurance policy as policies may not provide cover in these circumstances.

FCDO assistance may also be limited in these areas should you encounter difficulties when choosing to travel to them.

Visas and other services

Anyone travelling should ensure that they have the correct visa needed for their destination. The FCDO can’t help anyone enter a country if they don’t have the correct visa or stop a country’s authorities from deporting someone if they arrive without a correct visa.

Visas and entry requirements are listed on the FCDO travel advice for each country. Some visas can be secured online, whilst some require an in-person appointment at an Embassy or High Commission in London.

Those seeking to travel should contact the appropriate Embassy or High Commission if they have queries about any requirements or how to apply for them.

High Commissions and Embassies in London can also assist with other services such as passport renewal, notarisation of documents, and overseas voting. Those seeking these services should contacting the appropriate Embassy or High Commission.
