Applying for an Indian visa for Jersey citizens

How to apply

The process to apply for an India visa is the same for Jersey and mainland UK. The decision to grant a visa sits with the Government of India.

VFS Global is the official partner appointed by the Indian High Commission in London to provide  consular, passport and visa application services. 

Allow as much time as you can for your application and do not apply through a third-party supplier.

You can apply for a visa on VFS Global. The application process is detailed on their website and consists of 7 steps:

  1. identify your visa type and check if you’re eligible to apply
  2. prepare your application by completing the form on the Government of India website. You’ll need to print this form and bring it to your visa appointment. On the form, make sure you select the following options which help Jersey applicants:
    • for Indian Mission/Office select UK-London
    • for relevant items, select United Kingdom or British (not Jersey)
    • for Citizenship/ID select UK
  3. book an appointment at a Visa Application Centre in the UK. You need to attend this appointment in person. If you’re part of a family or group, you need to book individual appointments for each member of the family or group. Find the list and choose a Visa Application Centre on VFS Global 
  4. pay the fees for your visa application. Fees depend on your visa category
  5. visit a Visa Application Centre. Bring all the correct documentation, including your passport and 2 recent passport photos as needed. If you cannot attend the appointment, you must complete the Letter of Authorisation from VFS Global to authorise a nominee to act on your behalf
  6. track your application on check your application status on VFS Global. You’ll need your application ID and passport number
  7. delivery of processed documents. Your successful or unsuccessful visa application documents will be returned to you via post or courier. You can pay for a secured courier service at your Visa Application Centre appointment
