Attending interviews in the UK: financial help

Interview allowance

If you need to attend an interview in the UK for an approved course of higher education, we may be able to cover your travel expenses if the relevant income:

  • is not more than £49,999.99 Student Finance will pay up to £258 for one visit from the student only

  • is more than £49,999.99, any interview expenses paid will be deducted from the first year’s grant

You'll need to pay back the cost of interview expenses if you decide not to go to university or are not entitled to funding.

How to claim my expenses

Once you have your interview details, please return the following items to Student Finance:
  • receipts for travel expenses
  • a copy of the letter from the institute(s) requesting an interview
On completion of the HE1 form Student Finance will reimburse your travel expenses
