Income levels and interview costs
If you need to attend an interview in the United Kingdom for an approved course of higher education, we may be able to cover your travel expenses. This depends on your family's income.
If your family's gross annual income for the calendar year is not expected to be more than £34,000, the Education Department will pay for reasonable travel costs. We will pay for one visit to the UK, for the student’s travel costs only, up to a maximum of £258.
If you claim interview costs, your parents will have to complete an income statement form at a later date, which must be certified by the Comptroller of Income Tax. If your gross family income turns out to be more than £34,000, any interview expenses that we have paid for will be taken out of the first year’s grant.
You'll have to pay back the cost of attending an interview if you decide not to go to university.
How to claim your expenses
Once your interview details have been arranged, your parents should return the following items to Student Finance:
- a completed interview expenses form (you can download this below or they are available from Student Finance or the Careers Jersey reception)
- receipts for the student's travel expenses
- a copy of the letter from the institute(s) requesting an interview
Interview expenses can only be reimbursed after you have been approved for an award having submitted an application for a student award (HE1 form). You can apply online below.
