About Next Steps

Next Steps helps young people aged 16 and 25 who are not in school, training or working.

You can get free support if you:

  • feel lost or isolated
  • are unsure of what you want to do
  • have poor mental health
  • have additional needs

Whatever your needs, you can talk to us to get guidance on your next step and how to get there.

We currently offer 2 options:

  • one-to-one sessions called Discover
  • 12-week group programme called Momentum

We believe every young person deserves a chance to thrive in their own time and in their own way. Our one-to-one sessions and programme are a start towards something better and possible.

Next Steps is a free government programme that replaces Prince’s Trust in Jersey. This was also replaced in the UK by the King’s Trust

How to join or get advice

Anyone can contact us for an informal chat and to get advice. We’re happy to support you, whatever your needs are.

To join our one-to-one sessions or group programme:

  • you can refer yourself
  • a professional, parent or carer can refer you

You’ll need the young person’s consent to refer them.

One-to-one sessions (Discover)

Our one-to-one sessions are a safe and supportive space we’ll design based on your needs and circumstances.

You can feel shy, unsure of yourself, or just not quite ready to be part of a group. We’ll work together at your pace to help you feel more confident in who you are, comfortable and connected whether that’s:

  • in a group
  • at home
  • out and about in daily life

In our sessions, we’ll:

  • explore your strengths and celebrate what makes you who you are
  • build tools to help with self-esteem and positive self-talk
  • practice social skills in a low-pressure way
  • work through any worries or fears about being in group settings
  • set small, achievable goals that help you feel ready and in control

You don’t need to have it all figured out. You just need to be willing to take the first step.

12-week group programme (Momentum)

Our group programme will help you if you’re ready to explore what’s next for you but you’re not sure where to start.

We run 3 programmes per year, contact us to find out the next starting date.

In the programme, we’ll:

  • build your confidence and self-esteem, by learning how to believe in yourself and your abilities
  • develop life skills to grow your independence. This can be from communication to goal setting, budgeting and self-care
  • explore your options, to find out what courses, jobs, volunteering are out there or something new
  • try new things, like taking part in creative, practical, and team-based activities in a supportive space
  • build essential skills using Skills Builder Partnership
  • provide one-to-one support, to get personal guidance tailored to you and your journey
  • have group sessions, to build connections, practice social skills and learn from others

Joining our programme means that you’ll:

  • be supported by people who get it
  • grow in confidence and clarity about what you want
  • have the chance to build a plan for your future with no pressure or judgment

If you’re feeling stuck or unsure about the future, this could be the fresh start you need.
