States of Jersey Code of Conduct

The States of Jersey Code of Conduct for employees helps to protect the integrity of the States and its employees by providing clear guidance on standards of behaviour.

​Why we have a States of Jersey Code of Conduct

Our Code of Conduct provides a set of guiding principles for our employees on how they should conduct themselves in their day to day work for the States of Jersey. The code helps to:

  •  manage and improve standards of working practice
  •  reinforce the integrity of the States and its employees 
  •  protect employees in the course of their duties
  •  maintain the trust and confidence of the Island's community in the work of the States

What behaviour does the Code of Conduct cover?

The Code of Conduct gives guidance to employees, and asks them to consider their judgement or behaviour on many aspects of their work, including how to:

  • ensure employees treat each other fairly and respectfully
  • adopt safe working practices
  • work within the law
  • avoid conflicts of interest
  • follow policy on the use and confidentiality of official information
  • report malpractice or wrong doing
  • follow policy relating to gifts, hospitality, bequests and business expenses
