Specifically, I would like to know:

The number of children who have died while under the care of a States of Jersey run children’s homes since 2010.

If possible, the causes of death.

Response

There have been fewer than five deaths of children under the care of a States of Jersey children’s home since 2010. In order to safeguard the identity and privacy of individuals, the department will not provide further information as it is exempt under Article 26 (b) of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law.

Exemptions applied

Article 26 - Information supplied in confidence 

Information is absolutely exempt information if – 

(a) it was obtained by the scheduled public authority from another person (including another public authority); and 

(b) the disclosure of the information to the public by the scheduled public authority holding it would constitute a breach of confidence actionable by that or any other person.
