How many people who have committed an offence (serious and non serious) and charged with that offence have failed to appear in court because they have left the Island (Jersey) in the past five years, namely 25 November 2011 to 25 November 2016.

Response 

We do not hold statistics covering reasons for failures to appear in court. The greatest volume of cases is in the Magistrate’s Court which for the years 2011 - 2015 reported a total of 5,843 arrest orders made. 

An inspection of the records for each case to establish any reasons for failure to appear would exceed the 12.5 time cost limit set out in the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law. In addition, it would not be possible in all cases to establish a reason for failure to appear because the evidence may not be clear.
