Request

Could you tell me how many dogs were brought into the Island from European Union (EU) countries during 2015 and of these, how many were rescue dogs?

If you have the figures for dogs brought in from outside the EU I would like those too please.

Response

2546 dogs were recorded entering Jersey from the EU (not the United Kingdom) in 2015.

The vast majority were pets travelling with an owner, however 209 of these entered the Island as commercial imports (ie for the purposes of being sold or re-homed).

A very small number (eight known) entered the EU (not the United Kingdom) as pets and travelled onto Jersey.

Of the 209 dogs entering Jersey from the EU as a Commercial Import we believe 199 were rescue dogs.
