The data has been difficult to extract as our finance report comes up with an average annual spend on medical locums of £2.38m over the 10 year period, with a peak of £3.373m in 2011.

The breakdown can only be provided for 2016 and is as follows:

B to E

The salary figures are the same, regardless of specialty. The salary scale for permanent Consultants ranges between £78,261 and £142,453 per annum. A locum Consultant on a Health and Social Services Department (HSSD) salary would have access to the same salary scale range. The last three points of the pay scale are by panel agreement only.

An agency locum Consultant is paid per hour and can range between £80 and £105.

Foundation Year 1 £26 per hour

Foundation Year 2 £30 per hour

Clinical Fellow £34 per hour

Middle Grade £50 to £60 per hour

Consultant £60 to £70 per hour (£240 to £280 per Programmed Activity)

We estimate that it will take us in excess of 12.5 working hours to determine appropriate material and to locate, retrieve and extract the information in reference to your request. Therefore, the data requested in the first question has been provided for 2016 only.

Regulation 2 (1) of the Freedom of Information (Costs) (Jersey) Regulations 2014 allows an authority to refuse a request for information where the estimated cost of dealing with the request would exceed the specified amount of the cost limit of £500. This is the estimated cost of one person spending 12.5 working hours in determining whether the department holds the information, locating, retrieving and extracting the information.
