Electroconvulsive therapy (FOI)

Electroconvulsive therapy (FOI)

Produced by the Freedom of Information office
Authored by States of Jersey and published on 27 March 2017.

Request

Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) was used in Jersey during the 1980s under [name redacted] at St Saviour's Hospital.

Is Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) still practiced in Jersey?

If so, how many patients have been treated using it in 2016?

Response

The Health and Social Services Department does not provide Electroconvulsive Therapy in Jersey. If a patient required treatment with ECT they would need to travel to an alternative Hospital in the UK.

There were no patients treated with ECT in 2016. We have not been providing ECT for a number of years.
