Purple and white taxi licence conditions (FOI)

Purple and white taxi licence conditions (FOI)

Produced by the Freedom of Information office
Authored by States of Jersey and published on 30 March 2017.

Application for white / purple taxi licences.

From the time an application is completed and accepted by Driver and Vehicle Standards (DVS) and the licence has been issued, how long is the licence valid for?

According to a previous freedom of information request there were 14 purple plates issued. How many of the 14 issued had the 80% must be pre-booked work attached to them in conditions?

Out of the 13 purple plate licences that have been backdated, how many have the 80% must be pre-booked work attached to them in conditions.

Can a taxi sell alcohol?

Can a taxi sell contraband i.e. cigarettes?

Can a driver of a taxi sell legal/illegal substances from a taxi?

Can a red plated vehicle stand on the taxi rank without the driver facing prosecution or suspension?

One year from the date of the certificate of fitness examination.

Two purple plates were issued in error with the 80% pre-booked work condition attached. These have since been corrected.

No purple plate licences have been back dated. The date of the licence runs from the date the vehicle passes its certificate of fitness examination. If for whatever reason the licence is suspended and later reinstated or the driver affiliates to another company, the new licence issued will still be valid from the date the vehicle passed its certificate of fitness examination.

Contraband is illegal for anyone to sell. Cigarettes can only be sold by someone with a trader’s licence.

A red plated vehicle may not stand on the taxi rank. If one did, the driver would face prosecution or suspension.
