Road traffic collision caused by speed (FOI)

Road traffic collision caused by speed (FOI)

Produced by the Freedom of Information office
Authored by States of Jersey and published on 25 May 2017.

Request

I would like to know the exact number of road traffic collisions in Jersey over the last 10 years directly related to a speeding vehicle.

Out of these collisions I want to know how they were categorised in terms of car, bicycle, motorbike and whether pedestrians were involved or not.

Response

This information is not held by the States of Jersey police. The speed of a vehicle at the time of an accident is not recorded by the vehicle and is therefore not available for the police to record.

Road Traffic Collisions, (RTC’s) can happen at any speed but the chance of serious injury or damage will increase with higher speeds. Speed limits are set to reduce the likelihood of causing serious injury should a collision occur.
