Request

Please provide the specific details of the selection procedure that has been applied to the 30 successful applicants at Grouville School.

What criteria has made each applicant successful i.e. whether they live in Grouville catchment area, application time delay, and anything specific that would aid inclusion?

Response

Places at school nurseries are allocated based on our published criteria. [A link to this is given below].

ESC (Education Sport and Culture) criteria are as follows:

  1. Children suspected of being at risk
  2. Children with social, educational, physical or emotional needs (e.g. medical conditions, disability or health needs)
  3. Children from families with particular needs (e.g. brothers or sisters with special needs, multiple births, parental illness, night shift workers)
  4. Children with brothers and sisters at the school
  5. Time between date of birth and date of application

The majority of places were given to children who already had siblings within the school, based on criterion 4. All other places were allocated based on criterion 1-3, and 5.

In order to ensure that we protect the privacy of individual applicants we cannot give further information as to the specific circumstances of their successful applications.

ESC work very closely with a number of agencies to ensure any children that meet criteria 1 to 3 are given priority, often this is also supported by evidence that the parents provide at the time of application.

By coincidence, all of the children offered places at Grouville nursery live within the catchment; however, it should be noted that we do not apply a criterion related to address.

No other circumstances unrelated to the published criteria have contributed to the offer of places at Grouville nursery. ESC is confident that the process of allocation for all nursery places is fair and consistent.
