Request

I would like to ask Social Services if there is any regulation as to when children should be in bed during school term. My neighbours are driving my family insane including my son who goes to bed at 8pm at the latest but only falls asleep after 9pm because of the noise from the children in the flat above.  I gave up putting him to bed at 7pm.

Response

There are no statutory regulations on when children should be in bed during school term.

You may wish to consider these steps if you have a problem with your neighbour:

  • try to solve the problem informally by talking to them
  • if your neighbour is a tenant, you could contact their landlord / housing provider
  • you can read the guidance on noise complaints on gov.je at the following link:

Nuisances and noise complaints

  • you can contact the Environmental Health Department on 445808 or email at:
