Request

How many £100 notes have been sold and how many remain in stock?

Response

Jersey Currency (Currency Notes (Jersey) Law 1959) is released into circulation by the retail banks on the Island. The amount of Jersey currency in circulation is therefore determined purely by public demand.

To date, 9,000 £100 notes have been issued. A small number of notes have been ‘gifted’. In 2013, for example, the three babies born on the same day as the son of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were presented with framed £100 notes.

There are 91,000 notes held in stock. (Note: 100,000 notes were produced. This was the minimum print run which could be ordered).
