Authored by States of Jersey and published on 16 April 2018.

Request

Please provide for the year 2017 the total number of return flights from Jersey to London Gatwick purchased for use by States employees, broken down by airline. Please also provide the average cost of each return flight by Airline.

Response

The table below details the number of domestic return flights* from Jersey to London Gatwick paid for by the States of Jersey in 2017, and average ticket cost.

The numbers below may include some contractors working on behalf of the States of Jersey.

To distinguish whether the traveller was an employee of the States of Jersey or a contractor would require a manual data check of every traveller name and department. This would take more than 12.5 hours, therefore Article 16 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 has been applied.

AirlineTotal No of Flights*Average Cost
British Airways1015 £97.06
Easyjet396£103.49

* Number of domestic flights booked as return Jersey / London Gatwick / Jersey under the same ticket / PNR locator reference (passenger name record).

Article applied

Article 16 A scheduled public authority may refuse to supply information if cost excessive

(1) A scheduled public authority that has been requested to supply information may refuse to supply the information if it estimates that the cost of doing so would exceed an amount determined in the manner prescribed by Regulations.

Regulation 2 (1) of the Freedom of Information (Costs) (Jersey) Regulations 2014 allows an authority to refuse a request for information where the estimated cost of dealing with the request would exceed the specified amount of the cost limit of £500. This is the estimated cost of one person spending 12.5 working hours in determining whether the department holds the information, locating, retrieving and extracting the information.
