Produced by the Freedom of Information office
Authored by States of Jersey and published on 24 September 2018.

Request

I am writing to you under the Freedom of Information legislation to request the following information:

The number of crimes logged in the last five years which include the words Tinder or Grindr. Could these figures be broken down by year, with the type of crimes they are linked to also listed.

Response

Year20142015201620172018
No of crimes involving terms ‘Tinder’ or ‘Grindr’10379

The allegations below mention either Tinder or Grindr in the body of the recorded crime. In some cases, the mention of the sites is incidental and did not contribute to the alleged crime, eg the individual was active on Grindr or the couple met on Tinder some years earlier.

In total there were nine allegations of attempting to meet a child following sexual grooming (all in 2017 / 2018), seven allegations of sexual assault, (four females and three males) three allegations of physical assault and one of disorderly behaviour / harassment.
