Entitled status granted on social or economic grounds (FOI)

Prepared internally, no external costs.

Request

Please provide a list of all “entitled” status States Employees whereby entitled status was originally gained “On social or economic grounds and judged as being in the best interests of the community”, Please list both their job title and their Department.

It is inconceivable that the States would not have this information readily available as it would be vital to the management of the island’s population.

The law changed so that these essentially employed immigrants could buy as soon as they arrive.

This is distorting the housing market and information is required to understand the number of public sector employees employed into the Island on this basis.

Response

The States Chief Executive is the only States of Jersey employee to have been granted Entitled status on social or economic grounds. A public Ministerial Decision setting out the decision can be found at the following link:

Ministerial decision: MD-C-2017-0128
