Can I please request the following information:

How many referrals have been made to specialists at the hospital for teenagers who self harm in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014?

How many referrals have been made to specialists at the hospital for adults who self harm in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014?

The number of hospital admissions that have been made for teenagers (age 13 to19) who have self harmed in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014?

The total number of hospital admissions made for adults who have self harmed in 2011, 2012, 2012 and 2014?

A break down by age of the number of people who have been treated in the Emergency Department who have been self harming in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014?

Response

Data is provided from June 2011 due to the introduction of the TrakCare patient administration system.

Referrals are not normally made to hospital specialists for self harm. Referrals are considered as a referral from an outside source such as a GP. Psychiatry and psychology do not sit within the hospital.

Patients admitted with ‘self harm’ as a coding category are via the emergency department and are noted below.

Admissions where the clinical coding for the episode of care included self harm.

The total of 546 episodes equates to 403 patients.
