Removal of road signs (FOI)

Removal of road signs (FOI)

Request

In recent correspondence with the Department for Infrastructure about signposts, I received a reply including this : "The Department is committed to reducing unnecessary road clutter and locating signs to minimise impact on the landscape, subject to effective and safe locating of signage. The Panel recognised the reasons behind the request but consider that the signs are required to direct road users seeking orientation and are in the correct location for this need."

Given this commitment, is it possible for the Department to say how many signposts were removed in 2018? Further, is it possible to know how many new signposts were installed in 2018?

I use the term signpost, to mean an instance of road direction or instruction signs and the like, acknowledging that not all will involve a post, or may need more than one post.

Response

The Government of Jersey do not maintain records regarding the number of roads signs removed and installed.
