A

If a civil servant works overtime outside of their normal contracted hours and they aren’t gaining flexi time for it, is this paid and if so, are they paid at their normal hourly pay rate or do they get an increment on top of this?

If so, please advise what this is, or if there are several please advise how these are calculated?

B

What is the sum of overtime paid out to civil servants working outside of their contracted hours over the last three years, inclusive of 2019 so far?

C

What is the policy on temporary workers from recruitment agencies being paid overtime outside of their contracted hours, based on the understanding they are not entitled to any flexi time? If they work for say 30 minutes extra a day, are they entitled to be paid for this as agency staff or should they just be receiving their contracted pay regardless of any extra time they have stayed?

Response

A

Overtime can be claimed if work extends longer than half an hour after normal hours. Overtime cannot be claimed without prior consent.

For grades 1 to 10 overtime is calculated as follows:

  • 1.5 x salary for weekdays / Saturdays / day off

  • 2 x salary for Sunday / Bank holiday / Rest day.

For grades 11 to15 all overtime is paid at plain time (1 x salary).

B

2017 - £2,079,768.75

2018 - £1,968,671.98

2019 Q1 - £358,747.05

C

Agency staff declare the hours they work on a timesheet that is submitted and are paid at a flat rate for the hours they work. Again, any overtime has to be authorised before it is undertaken.
