Request

Number of cannabis related arrests and prosecutions broken down by year for years 2010 to 2015.

Response

The States of Jersey Police record crimes by title. Crimes of a similar nature can be recorded under a different title.

The table available below lists all the titles for cannabis and other class B drugs where prosecutions occurred.

Download table showing prosecutions for cannabis and other class B drugs (size 149KB)

Cannabis is a class B drug under the Misuse of Drugs (Jersey) Law 1978, as are a number of other prohibited drugs. The table in yellow lists all the offences that either went to court or Parish Hall where cannabis was named as the class B drug.

The unspecified table only records the drugs as class B. It may be that the drug was cannabis or another prohibited drug under that classification. For other drugs listed under class B see part 2 of schedule 2 of the Misuse of Drugs (Jersey) Law 1978.

To research each of those 221 offences would take on average five minutes for each file resulting in a total time to recover the information exceeding the 12.5 hours permitted in the Freedom of Information legislation.
