How many staff employed by the States have been suspended in the past three years, 2017, 2018 and so far in 2019.

What have the reasons been for these suspensions.

How have the suspensions ended? eg back to work, struck off, and so on.

A

The number of employees suspended:

  • 23 employees in 2017

  • 18 employees in 2018

  • fewer than 10 employees in 2019

Article 25 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 has been applied to this request and as such, disclosure control has been applied to numbers fewer than ten. This is to protect the privacy of individuals.

The reasons for the suspensions were as follows:

  • under police investigation

  • medical suspension

  • bullying and harassment

  • fitness to practice

  • health and safety

  • gross misconduct

Outcomes of Investigations:

  • dismissals

  • disciplinary warnings

  • no action

  • resigned

  • referrals to professional bodies

(1) Information is absolutely exempt information if it constitutes personal data of which the applicant is the data subject as defined in the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2018.

(2) Information is absolutely exempt information if –

(a) it constitutes personal data of which the applicant is not the data subject as defined in the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2018; and

(b) its supply to a member of the public would contravene any of the data protection principles, as defined in that Law.
