Request

A document "Existing free trade agreements if there's no Brexit deal" dated 20 November 2018 stated that Jersey was working towards a territorial extension of the UK's World Trade Organisation (WTO) membership to Jersey. That was over six months ago.

A

How close is Jersey to securing the extension? Will it be done by the end of this year?

B

What does it involve?

C

If no extension is in place, on what basis will Jersey trade with other territories?

Response

The questions posed do not wholly fall under the remit of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011. The requester is asking general questions and does not clearly seek information held by Government.

Notwithstanding the above;

A

Information in relation to the timing of the extension is exempt from release under Article 36 (Information intended for future publication) of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 as a press release on this subject is due to be issued shortly.

B

As indicated in the following link (page 16), discussions with HM Government have been ongoing for some time.
