Request

Is it possible to get information on how much was spent by the Health and community services department on Agency staff from outside of Jersey in 2018 and 2019?

If it is possible I am specifically interested in Doctors, Nurses and Care workers (HCA's). A total spend for 2019 and 2018 would be great. If you can provide monthly breakdowns that would also be very helpful. If you need any further information please let me know.

Response

Please see below spreadsheet.

Agency staff costs

Agency staffing expenditure in Health and Community Services totalled £11.547m in 2018, and £11.575m in 2019. The various categories contain the following:

  • agency Medical: all grades of agency medical staffing, including Consultants, Middle Grades, Clinical Fellows, and Junior Doctors

  • agency Nursing: any nursing agency staff coded here. Typically agency nursing support brought in is all for cover of registered posts (ie qualified nurses). Healthcare Assistant roles are typically covered through the on-Island bank of staff

  • other Agency: this category includes all other healthcare professional agency staff (eg Allied Health Professionals (ie Pathology, Radiography, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists), and Social Workers), as well as administration and clerical staff and managers
