Can you please advise the following for a diabetes medicine called Ozempic (semaglutide):
Has funding been approved for GPs and Hospitals to prescribe semaglutide?
What is semaglutide's Red, Amber, Green (RAG) formulary status?
Is semaglutide positioned as 1, 2, 3 or 4th line GLP-1 on formulary (within it's RAG status)?
If semaglutide is approved for funding, what is date it was approved?
Semaglutide is approved for prescribing by both GPs and the hospital.
Semaglutide is not positioned in relation to other GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide 1) medicines. The decision on which one to prescribe is left to the clinical discretion of the prescriber.
Semaglutide was approved for prescribing in the hospital in April 2019 and for prescribing by GPs on 1 November 2019.
