Dementia policies (FOI)

Dementia policies (FOI)

Produced by the Freedom of Information office
Authored by Government of Jersey and published on 06 April 2020.
Prepared internally, no external costs.

Request

Could Health and Community Services Department please provide all policies, practices and procedures adopted for dealing with patients with dementia that were in place between June 2018 and December 2018. If publicly available could the place they are published be identified.

Response

Policies, practices and procedures adopted for dealing with patients with dementia is a generic term that covers all the stages of the disease following a diagnosis. Therefore, it involves different services for example community, inpatients, liaison services and palliative care.

There are no dementia specific policies to release in response to the request.
Special consideration to the management of patients with dementia is referred to in other policies.

Clinicians advise that a ‘one fits all’ policy is not used as the service is tailored to the individual, using appropriate guidelines (including National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) and General Medical Council (GMC)) and professional experience and knowledge.
