Re-opening of schools (FOI)

Re-opening of schools (FOI)

Produced by the Freedom of Information office
Authored by Government of Jersey and published on 23 June 2020.
Prepared internally, no external costs.

As of 19:45 on Tuesday 16 June 2020 there has been no further notice of Primary school years (other than year 6) going back to school. If primary year groups from Reception through to Year 6 are not allowed back to school on Monday 22 June can you please provide all facts that lead to the decision to not allow these year groups back, together with backing evidence.

Based on the fact that numerous schools have now fully opened to primary age groups (Beaulieu, St Georges and St Michaels that I know of) why can't others?

Please specifically reply to the following facts:

  • the World Health Organisation are now advising one meter physical distancing is sufficient - why can't we?

  • there is a very strong case that says Children are not spreaders of Covid-19

  • why you have gone against the recommendation of Jersey's Children's Commissioner when she has called for all year groups to be allowed back to school.

The Education Minister announced on 17 June that all students will begin to return to school from 22 June. The news release can be found at the following link:
