Request

Could the Government please:

A

Quantify the extent of the roof damage in their Broad Street offices.

B

Give a figure for how much money it will cost to repair the Broad Street roof and any further damage caused by Storm Alex.

C

Say how many staff have had to be moved to other offices as a result of the roof damage?

D

Say how many staff have had to work from home as a result of the roof damage?

E

State how long staff will be working from home as a result of the damage.

F

What repair work / stabilising has been done so far?

Response

A

Storm Alex did not cause any damage to the roof of 19-21 Broad Street ‘(the ‘Office’), however, there was a minor water ingress caused by a blocked roof gulley.

B

We have not yet received all invoices regarding the repairs carried but the value of repair is estimated to be £13k.

The Government of Jersey do not own the Broad Street office; therefore, it is unlikely that we will be responsible for the payment of the repair costs, however we are currently in discussions with the landlord and their insurers.

C

The office has not been fully occupied since flexible working arrangements were introduced due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The office is working to a maximum capacity of 70% of the previous limits, this equates to approximately 345 staff, but the actual number of staff that are routinely working in the building is less that this total. Of the staff in the building at the time, approximately 55 worked from other locations whilst the building was unavailable.

D

A large proportion of staff were already working from home prior to office damage. We do not record staff working locations as these may change daily and throughout the day due to the flexible working arrangements currently in place.

E

Staff were sent home or to alternative locations on 2 October. The office re-opened on 12 October; however, a large proportion of staff are still working from home in accordance with Covid-19 flexible working guidelines.

 F

A full drying-out process has been undertaken in the affected areas, including the electrics. Ceiling tiles have been replaced and decoration carried out were where required.
