Request

This request for information is to ask the authorities in the Health Department to analyse further the arrivals figures to Jersey by sea. The sea arrivals show that Covid-19 cases run at between 16% and 19% of all arrivals to Jersey. However, this figure does not differentiate between arrivals by sea from the UK and from France.

Therefore, my request is to show separately the total number of arrivals by sea from the UK and from France so that it is clear how many sea arrivals had Covid-19 from each jurisdiction, UK or France.

Response

For the positive cases that have arrived in Jersey by sea:

  • 47% are from UK ports

  • 53% are from European ports

A further breakdown is not possible as the numbers are too small.

The requestor is urged to remember that people travel more widely than from France to Jersey via St Malo. This is a common route for many travellers from across Europe. The same holds true for flight arrivals from the UK. Jersey has acknowledged this through the country and regions risk assessments.
