I would like the turnaround times for the initial Covid-19 test results for mothers going to the maternity unit for labour and delivery.

Response

The turnaround time for a Covid-19 PCR for an acute or urgent admission is 45 to 60 minutes from receipt in the laboratory.

A cold admission eg elective surgery is usually done through Overdale and Open Cell with a turnaround time of 12 to 24 hrs.

Open Cell is the laboratory that is based at the airport, it is not a part of the hospital laboratory.

Open Cell is an additional laboratory service brought in to support with swabbing.
