Fishing licences issued to French boats (FOI)

Fishing licences issued to French boats (FOI)

Request

Please can I ask how many French fishing licences have been issued so far this year and how many more are pending approval to fish in Jersey waters?

Response

The Government of Jersey (GOJ) have issued 57 temporary licences to French vessels which regularly fish in Jersey waters. These temporary licences are valid until 30 April 2021.

Since the issue of these licences the EU / UK has agreed to an amnesty period allowing vessels with a 2021 Granville Bay Permit to continue to fish until end of April.

After this period Granville Bay permits will no longer be valid and a full GOJ licence will be required to fish in local waters. Evidence will be required with applications to ensure that all vessels meet the qualification criteria.
