Request

A

How many cars are registered in Jersey as of 31 December 2020?

B

How many electric / hybrid cars are registered as of 31 December 2020?

Response

A

The DVS vehicle register indicates that the total number of cars registered was 90,946 as at 31 December 2020.

B

The following table details the number of electric and hybrid cars registered as at the same date.

Registered cars as at 31 December 2020

Electric cars  654
Hybrid cars 1303

However, it should be noted that the total number of cars on the register does not reflect the actual number of cars in existence. Unfortunately, despite it being a legal requirement for registered owners to notify DVS within 7 days of a car being scrapped or exported DVS is not always notified.
