Request

At 04:00 on Tuesday morning 23 March 2021 my household was awakened by a drone noise.

A

Does the States or States appointed authority operate a flying drone through the early morning hours?

B

What is the purpose of the drone?

C

Can the public request a cessation of the activity?

Response

Government of Jersey did not deploy a drone at any time on 23 March 2021.

A

Yes, the Justice and Home Affairs, Aerial Reconnaissance Team do operate a drone but only if part of an emergency response to an incident.

B

The Justice and Home Affairs, Aerial Reconnaissance Team drone provides additional search capabilities when deployed for missing persons, a thermal imaging function to assist emergency services, and minimises risk to personnel who would otherwise have to physically access hazardous areas.

C

No. Due to the emergency response nature of this equipment it is considered to be in the best interests of the public to operate a drone function.
