Request

A

What is the total number of current firearms certificates per Parish?

B

How many new firearms certificates have been granted each year over the last 10 years, with a breakdown per Parish.

C

How many applications for firearms certificates have been denied per year over the last 10 years with a breakdown per Parish.

Response

A

The attached spread sheet shows the number of firearms certificates held and those awaiting renewal as of 23 March 2021. The States of Jersey police keep a register of current firearms certificate holders and the weapons held.

Firearms Certificates per Parish - 23 March 2021

B

Information not held.

To give a breakdown of how many new certificates issued over a 10 year period would require a review of each of the current 1277 certificates to clarify if they have been renewed or are a first issue. As a Firearms certificate lasts for only five years, some certificates may have expired and have not been renewed therefore, police will not have complete records for this question.

C

Information not held.

Similarly, the Constable of each Parish is responsible for the issuing of individual firearms certificates to those living in their Parish. The Parish may not always advise the States Police of certificates refused. For answers to questions B and C, please submit a Freedom of Information request direct to the Parishes.  Details can be found at the following link:
