Response

A

From 13 December 2020 (the date the first COVID-19 vaccine was delivered in Jersey) to the end of March 2021, 307 individuals have been admitted to Jersey General Hospital within 28 days of their first dose of COVID Vaccination and a further 53 have been admitted within 28 days of their second dose. These numbers are for emergency admissions only and therefore exclude patients who attended for an elective procedure or regular treatments (eg in the oncology or renal departments). In addition, in answering this question, no account has been taken of the patient’s diagnosis. The numbers also only show individuals (as per the question) so do not count if an individual has been admitted on more than one occasion. This is an estimate based on matching data extracted from EMIS (the clinical IT system used for patient records) for the purposes of administering the Vaccination Programme to the hospital admission data.

Note: During this period vaccinations were provided to those individuals who were in the higher age range and those recorded as being at high risk of the effects of COVID-19. It is therefore likely that those individuals would have been more probable to be admitted to hospital for underlying health conditions.

Up to the end of March 2021, 55 people have died within 28 days of the first dose of COVID Vaccination and a further 16 people died within 28 days of their second dose. This is an estimate based on matching data extracted from EMIS for the purposes of administering the Vaccination Programme to the death registration data.

B

To date there have been no deaths registered with any narrative referring to complications due to COVID-19 vaccine.
