Request

A
How many prisoners a week are apply to see a doctor?

B

How many are actually being seen?

C

If so, how long does it take on average for a prisoner to see a doctor?

I am not concerned about prisoners who receive daily medication from nurses.  I am only interested in prisoners that have applied to see a doctor.

Response

A

Since 1 January 2021 a total of 625 prisoners applied to see a GP.

B

From 1 January 2021 until 30 April 2021, 357 prisoners have been seen by a GP: This is an average of 21 prisoners per week

Month

Seen by GP

January73
February88
March101
April 95

268 applications were discussed but not seen by a GP as their request could be dealt with via a registered nurse, for example a repeat prescription. A nurse will determine the level and speed as to when they will be seen.

C

The average wait for a prisoner to see a GP is 2 to 3 days, however there are exceptions to this (emergencies / specific GP requested by Prisoner)
